Sharen Sandhu - Miss Canada Petite 2017
Sharen was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta and is currently entering her fourth year at the University of Calgary. She is perusing a degree in Communications in Media and has a Diploma in Broadcast News. Sharen is A Dean’s Honor List student and completed her Television Broadcasting practicum at CTV Edmonton. She has received numerous awards for academic excellence but the memorable was when she was the recipient of the 2015 Grand Prairie Equity scholarship.
Sharen began training in Martial Arts at the age of 4 and has competed in multiple competitions throughout Western Canada. She is heavily involved with the community and in partnership with her degree she hosts self-confidence workshops to help students with their public speaking and presenting skills. Last year, Sharen competed in the Miss. India-Canada pageant where she was crowned Miss. Photogenic and Miss.Talent. Being in a room full of so many ambitious and driven woman inspired Sharen to help empower the people around her. She combined her passion of being a leader and making a difference within the community together and began coaching wrestling and self-defense.
Throughout her high school years Sharen was an exceptional wrestler, and rugby player. She led her team as captain and MVP, representing her school at the City Selects tournament. Sharen’s parents immigrated from India in the late nineteen-hundreds, they struggled to find a sense of belonging and that made settling into a new country even more difficult. She uses their experiences to serve as motivation to embrace being different and cease any opportunity that comes her way while remaining focused, dedicated and humble.
Sharen is a driven young woman who is determined to pave a unique path and challenger herself by taking on new endeavors.
